Day 2: Photograph Composition
Composition is just how you arrange what’s in the frame.
Not rules.
Not perfection.
Just placement.
Where you stand, what you include, and what you leave out—those choices shape the photo.
What to Look For
Before you take a photo, pause for a second and notice:
- What’s in the frame?
- What’s distracting?
- Can you move slightly to simplify the scene?
Sometimes taking a step to the left—or lowering the camera—changes everything.
Even small shifts can bring clarity to an image, guiding the viewer’s eye through the frame
Your Task
Take one photo today where composition is the focus.
Not just what you see—but how you frame it.
Try something simple:
- Center your subject
- Place it off to one side
- Let empty space surround it
- Use a line (a road, a table edge, a shadow) to lead into it
Take a moment to adjust before you press the shutter.
Keep It Simple
You don’t need to know any formal rules.
Just ask:
“Does this feel clear?”
If something feels off, move your position and try again.
A Thought to Carry With You
Good composition isn’t about adding more.
It’s about removing what doesn’t belong.
