A Short Story - the subject
I stopped because of the field.
There were flowers everywhere—bright, scattered, moving slightly in the breeze. It felt like something worth capturing, so I stepped back and took a wide photo of the whole scene.
It looked fine.
But it didn’t feel like what I saw.
The Moment
I stood there a little longer.
That’s when I noticed one flower catching the light differently than the rest. It stood just slightly taller, the petals more defined, the center darker against the brightness around it.
It wasn’t the whole field that caught my attention.
It was that one.
The Shift
So I moved closer.
I let the rest of the field fall out of focus. I stopped trying to include everything and focused on just that single flower.
I took the photo again.
The Photo
Now it felt right.
The background was still there—but softer, quieter. The image had something to hold onto.
It wasn’t about the field anymore.
It was about one small part of it.
What Changed
The scene didn’t change.
Just the decision about what mattered.
