Win the First Five Minutes
The first few minutes after waking up often set the emotional tone for the entire day.
Many of us begin by reaching for a phone.
Before we're fully awake, we're already reacting to emails, headlines, weather, politics, and social media.
The day begins with someone else's priorities.
Living intentionally suggests a different beginning.
Give yourself the first five minutes.
My First Practice
One of the first practices I adopted was almost embarrassingly simple.
I made my bed.
Not because an unmade bed is a moral failure.
Because it was a promise.
A promise that the day had begun intentionally instead of accidentally.
Making the bed takes less than two minutes.
But it quietly says,
"I'm awake.
I'm present.
Today has begun."
Why It Matters
The bed itself isn't important.
The decision is.
You're teaching yourself that your first action of the day is a choice.
That mindset begins carrying into other parts of life.
What else can I choose today?
How will I respond?
What deserves my attention?
Your Practice May Be Different
Maybe making the bed isn't your thing.
That's perfectly okay.
Perhaps your first practice is:
- opening the curtains
- stretching
- making coffee mindfully
- sitting quietly
- stepping outside for fresh air
The specific practice matters less than the intention behind it.
Tomorrow Morning
Tomorrow, before the world asks anything of you...
take five minutes.
Choose one intentional action.
Then notice how the rest of the day feels.
Living Intentionally
Choose one practice.
Begin today.
Build your life one intentional day at a time.
