Champaign gift from our realtor

Geoff Toasts New Home

June 18, 2023

The movers were still somewhere between the Bay Area and the mountains, but we had already claimed the kitchen as our own. Standing there among tiled counters and oak cabinets, holding the bottle of champagne our realtor had thoughtfully given us, I felt something settle in.

The house was quiet—no furniture, no clutter, just the hum of the refrigerator and the faint scent of fresh mountain air drifting in each time the door opened. It was a simple moment, but it carried weight. We had made the move. The commute was gone. The pace had changed.

For a few minutes, I let myself simply enjoy it. The unknowns—especially how I planned to earn a living—could wait. That would come in time. What mattered right then was that we were standing in our own kitchen, in our own mountain home, toasting the beginning of a new chapter.

The champagne wasn’t just a celebration of a house. It was a toast to possibility.
